
THE HONOURABLE TUN DATO’ SRI AHMAD FAIRUZ DATO’ SHEIKH ABDUL HALIM

Tun Ahmad Fairuz was born on 1st November 1941. He was from Alor Setar, Kedah. He received his Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore and continued to further and obtained his Master of Laws in International and Comparative Laws from the University of Brussels, Belgium. Tun Ahmad Fairuz first served as Cadet Legal Officer when he entered the Malaysian Judicial and Legal Service on 4 April 1967 before holding several positions such as President of Sessions Court, State Legal Advisor and Chairman of the Advisory Board in the Prime Minister’s Department. He then was appointed as the Judicial Commissioner of High Court Malaya before serving as the High Court Judge. Beginning from 1 December 1995, Tun Ahmad Fairuz was promoted as a Court of Appeal Judge and then appointed as Federal Court Judge on 1 September 2000. He then served as the Chief Judge of Malaya from 2001 till 2002 and then was the President of the Court of Appeal of Malaysia from 2002 to 2003. He was appointed by the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, as the Chief Justice of Malaysia and served from 2003 to 2007. Tun Ahmad Fairuz was the one who fought for the implementation of Islamic Syariah Law to replace the English Common Law that was being practiced back in August 2006
