Nurhisham Hussein

Nurhisham Hussein serves as Senior Director of Economy and Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office. A distinguished economist and strategic policy adviser, he plays a key role in shaping Malaysia’s economic policies, fiscal reforms, investment strategies, and long-term development agenda. Prior to his current appointment in 2023, he served as Chief Strategy Officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), where he led strategic initiatives, including the development of major retirement policy reforms and long-term investment strategies. Before joining EPF, Nurhisham held senior positions at Bank Negara Malaysia, Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad (MARC), and DiGi Telecommunications, bringing together extensive experience across public policy, financial markets, corporate strategy, and economic research. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Malaya. Widely respected for his clear and practical insights into macroeconomic policy, fiscal sustainability, retirement systems, and economic resilience, Nurhisham is a frequent speaker at national and international forums.
