Since its inception in 2012, the World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilization (WCIT) series, organized by Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), has served as a distinguished international platform for intellectual engagement, policy dialogue, and scholarly collaboration on issues affecting the Muslim World and global civilization. Recognized as one of the State of Perak’s official events, WCIT brings together world leaders, policymakers, academics, intellectuals, professionals, and members of civil society to exchange ideas in a dynamic environment that encourages constructive discourse and practical solutions to contemporary challenges.

Beyond being an academic conference, WCIT seeks to bridge scholarship with action by promoting meaningful engagement between the Muslim World and the wider international community. The conference advocates inclusive dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaborative partnerships that contribute to sustainable peace, social development, good governance, and shared human progress.

Starting in 2016, WCIT introduced a series of interconnected themes that collectively examine the evolving role of the Muslim World in shaping the future of global civilization. The Future World (2016) conference explored possible futures in which Muslim societies either lead global development or actively contribute to a collectively envisioned future. Global Peace (2017) shifted attention to the importance of peaceful coexistence, intercultural dialogue, and international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world. Securing the Future (2018) examined strategies for building resilient societies capable of addressing political, economic, technological, and environmental challenges. Following the global disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharing Our Humanity (2022) highlighted compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility as foundations for rebuilding societies. This was followed by Together We Stand: Muslims and Global Humanity (2024), which reaffirmed the indispensable role of Muslim nations as active partners in fostering global peace, justice, and sustainable development.

Over the years, WCIT has evolved from primarily theoretical and academic discussions towards a stronger emphasis on translating ideas into practical initiatives and impactful actions. The conference continues to encourage the development of policies, partnerships, and community-based programmes that address real-world issues while strengthening cooperation within the Muslim World and beyond. Guided by the belief that humanity’s greatest challenges require collective responsibility, WCIT remains committed to advancing Islamic thought, promoting civilizational dialogue, and contributing to a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future for all.
