
Professor Dato’ Dr. Rahmat Mohamad is an internationally respected legal scholar, diplomat, and authority on public international law. He is currently a Professor of Law at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Fellow of Aberystwyth University, United Kingdom, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Education College (INTEC), Advisor to the INTEC Sustainability Leadership Centre, and an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court in Malaya. His current work focuses on sustainability leadership, environmental, social and governance (ESG) law, just transition, international arbitration, and mediation. Professor Rahmat is best known internationally for serving two terms as Secretary-General of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) from 2008 to 2016. During his tenure, he advanced legal cooperation among Asian and African states, representing the organisation at the United Nations and leading initiatives in international law, the law of the sea, peaceful settlement of disputes, international criminal and humanitarian law, trade, and arbitration. He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Chairman of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), following his leadership of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM). He holds an LL.B. from UiTM, an LL.M. from the University of Bristol, and a PhD in International Law from Aberystwyth University in the United Kingdom.
