PROF. DR. ABDUL GHAFAR ISMAIL

Professor Abdul Ghafar Ismail is Professor of Islamic Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where he also serves as the Chairholder of the Sheikh Abdullah Fahim Chair. He is the Chairperson of the Organisation of Islamic Economic Studies and Thoughts and a member of the Shariah Committee of Sun Life Malaysia Takaful. He obtained his PhD from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and has held numerous distinguished academic and professional appointments, including Head of the Research Division at the Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Rector of Johor Islamic Studies College, and Bank Supervision Advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Djibouti. He has also served as a consultant to the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning and as a member of the Shariah Committee at Citibank Malaysia. Professor Abdul Ghafar has authored numerous publications in leading international journals and several influential books on Islamic banking, risk management, and socio-economic development. His research interests include Islamic financial economics, risk management, capital adequacy, institutional economics, growth theory, and Maqasid Shariah for sustainable socio-economic development.
