
Dr. Fachruddin is one of Indonesia’s foremost scholars in environmental conservation, sustainability, and Islam and ecology. With more than three decades of experience as an academic, researcher, author, and environmental advocate, he has played a pioneering role in integrating Islamic values with biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. He holds a PhD in Environmental Management and Natural Resources from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology from the University of Indonesia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Universitas Nasional. Throughout his career, he has served as Chairman of the Centre for Islamic Studies at UNAS and has worked extensively with international organisations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and ICESCO. Dr. Fachruddin has authored more than 30 books and numerous peer-reviewed publications on environmental ethics, biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development. A drafting member of the Islamic Declaration on Global Climate Change (2015) and an adviser to several international environmental initiatives, he is widely recognised as a leading voice in faith-based environmental stewardship and sustainability in the Muslim world.
