
Following her PhD completion in Biomedical Sciences (Neurobiology) from Kent State University, USA (1989), she joined the Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya (UM) as a lecturer. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemical Science, with a minor in Psychology, from California State University, Chico (1983) under MOHE Malaysia scholarship. She is currently a Research Fellow at the UM Centre for Civilisational Dialogue (UMCCD) focusing on neuroscience, and Advisor to the UM UNESCO Club; recently securing a MOHE grant for the ‘Healthy Living, Healthy YOU: Eco-Health Habits for a Greener Future’ project. She leads multidisciplinary research involving the Faculty of Education and the Academy of Islamic Studies, covering topics such as prophetic foods, learning from Islamic and neuroscience perspectives, and coping strategies among Muslim parents of autistic children. On leadership roles, her repertoire included the UM Lead Auditor for the Quality Management System (QMS), Chair of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Coordinator of the Biohealth Science Programme, and Deputy Head of the Institute of Biological Sciences. She enjoys mentoring young leaders through her commitments in International Students of Islamic Psychology Malaysia and the Foundation of Brain, Mind, Neuroscience Research Malaysia (Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department).
