PROF. DATUK IR. TS. DR. AHMAD FAUZI ISMAIL, FASC

One of Malaysia’s leading scientists in membrane technology and advanced materials research, he is the Founder and First Director of the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) recognised internationally for pioneering research in membrane science and engineering. He also served as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of UTM from 2021 to 2024. Professor Ahmad Fauzi obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum Engineering) and Master of Science (Chemical Engineering) from UTM before earning his PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. His research focuses on membrane technology for water desalination, wastewater treatment, gas separation, renewable energy, fuel cells, and environmental sustainability. An internationally acclaimed researcher, he has authored more than 1,000 scientific publications, numerous books and book chapters, and holds multiple patents in membrane technology. His outstanding contributions have earned him over 200 national and international awards, including the Mustafa (PBUH) Prize 2023, the TWAS Prize 2020, and the Merdeka Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement. Through his pioneering research and scientific leadership, Professor Ahmad Fauzi continues to shape global advancements in sustainable technologies and inspire innovation in engineering and higher education.
