Good Governance and political Stability

Strong governments are not about power. They are about legitimacy, popularity, credibility, trust, integrity, institutional independence & strength, people’s acceptance, citizen support, sustainability, and political stability.

Good governance is a function of social perception in which human societies perceive their governments as fulfilling their fundamental social needs and addressing their hopes, aspirations, and fears. It is also a function of integrity as it reflects the ability of governments to fundamentally fulfill basic needs of societies by protecting social interests and guaranteeing social security. Integrity and good governance are therefore symbiotically connected. Taken together as inseparable ingredients of society, they elicit the people’s trust in the government, as public institutions under such conditions would enable the nurturing of the public welfare of the people. Ultimately, good governance and integrity help promote legitimacy, credibility, and sustainability resulting from the support of its people, and thus ensuring political stability. Good governance and integrity are paramount and central to the teachings of Islam and the historical siasah of managing the people.

We call on all governments to either develop a new model of good governance and political stability or utilize existing examples from their neighbors and allies. Political pride needs to be checked and swallowed, but reform remains necessary and must be done!
